Cost Currency

Select the currency used by the hotel — for example, if you are staying at a hotel in Zurich, select Swiss Francs (CHF). The currency will be converted to USD for the points calculation. The actual exchange rate used may differ slightly from the rate used here, resulting in a small difference in estimated points.

Total Cost (excl. Tax)

Enter the total stay cost excluding taxes and fees, as shown on the hotel booking confirmation or invoice. I Prefer points are earned on qualifying room rates only — taxes and fees are excluded.

Total Cost (incl. Tax)

Enter the total stay cost including taxes and fees. This field is used for the return-on-spend calculation and for estimating credit card points earned on the total charge.

Brand

Select the brand group of your hotel:
Main brands — Most Preferred Hotels & Resorts properties earn 10 base points per $1 spent.
andBeyond, Vermejo, The Brando — Earn a reduced rate of 5 points per $1.

Status

Select your I Prefer membership tier. Your status adds a percentage bonus on top of the base points you earn:
Silver — Entry level upon joining (free to join); no bonus on base points.
Gold — Adds a 20% bonus. Earned after accumulating 25,000 tier-qualifying points within a 12-month period.
Titanium — Adds a 50% bonus. Earned after accumulating 50,000 tier-qualifying points within a 12-month period.
The bonus applies to base hotel points only — credit card and promo points are not multiplied.

Offers

Active I Prefer promotions are listed here. Check any offer that applies to your stay. Deadlines and stay windows are shown where applicable. Select the Custom Offer option to enter a new or targeted offer. You can choose from a fixed amount of bonus points per stay, per night, or a multiplier of the total base points.

Nights

This field only appears when needed to calculate points from an offer that is based on nights stayed.

Credit Card

I Prefer is a transfer partner of both Citi ThankYou Rewards and Capital One Miles. Points earned on your hotel charge with an eligible card can be transferred to I Prefer at a 1:2 ratio (1,000 card points = 2,000 I Prefer points). The effective I Prefer earning rates by card are:
Citi Strata Premier — 6 I Prefer points per $1 (3× ThankYou Points × 2).
Citi Strata Elite — 3 I Prefer points per $1.
Capital One Venture X — 4 I Prefer points per $1 (2× Miles × 2).
Capital One Venture — 4 I Prefer points per $1.
Capital One VentureOne — 3 I Prefer points per $1.
These are calculated on the total spend including taxes and fees. Select No Credit Card if you are not transferring points. Occasional transfer bonuses are not factored in — add any bonus points to the Extra Points field.

Extra Points

Use this field for any additional points not covered by the other fields — for example, a targeted offer or a transfer bonus.

Point Value

The assumed value of one I Prefer point in US cents, used to convert your earned points into an estimated cash equivalent. The default of 0.5¢ per point reflects a reasonable average redemption value. I Prefer points can be redeemed for award nights, room upgrades, and gift certificates, with the actual value varying by redemption type and property.

Not Included in the Calculator

Booking channel: I Prefer points are earned when booking through eligible channels such as iprefer.com, the I Prefer app, or directly with participating hotels. The calculator assumes an eligible booking — bookings through third-party sites may not earn points.

Titanium and Gold benefits: Beyond the points bonus, Gold and Titanium members receive benefits such as room upgrades, early check-in, late check-out, and welcome amenities. These non-points benefits are not reflected in the calculator.
