About these fields

Room Cost & Taxes

Enter your pre-tax room rate in the first field and the full amount including all taxes and fees in the second. At most brands, Wyndham Rewards base points are earned on the room rate only, excluding taxes and fees — incidentals such as dining, parking, and resort fees do not count toward earning. The exception is Wyndham Grand, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, Wyndham Garden, and Dolce Hotels and Resorts, where taxes, surcharges and other charges are included in qualifying spend. The tax-inclusive total is used for credit card earning and the return-on-spend calculation regardless of brand. A guaranteed minimum of 1,000 points applies to any qualifying stay, so if your calculated base total would otherwise fall below that threshold the minimum kicks in automatically.

Currency

Select the currency you are paying in. The calculator converts your local amount to USD at an approximate exchange rate for the purpose of the return-on-spend estimate. Point earning itself is calculated in USD equivalent regardless of local currency.

Points Required

Enter the number of Wyndham Rewards points needed to book your stay as a free night. You can find this on Wyndham.com by searching for your hotel and dates and selecting the points rate. Wyndham uses a category-based system — go free awards start at 7,500 points per night for the lowest tier and go up to 30,000 points per night for top-tier properties. Leave this blank if you only want to calculate points earned on a cash stay.

Points + Cash

If you want to compare a hybrid redemption, enter the points and cash portions here. Wyndham’s go fast awards let you book using fewer points plus a cash co-pay. You can find these amounts on Wyndham.com when selecting the Points + Cash rate for your hotel and dates. Both fields are optional — if left blank, the comparison will only show cash vs. full award.

Brand

Wyndham Rewards earning varies by brand. Main brands — which covers the majority of the Wyndham portfolio including Wyndham, Ramada, Days Inn, Super 8, La Quinta, Microtel, Wingate, Hawthorn, AmericInn, Trademark, Registry, and others — earn 10 base points per $1. WaterWalk Extended Stay earns 5 base points per $1 on qualifying stays in a furnished suite (unfurnished suites do not qualify). Select the brand that matches your property; if you are unsure, Main Brands is the correct choice for most Wyndham hotels.

Status

Your Wyndham Rewards membership tier adds a percentage bonus on top of your base points. Blue (the entry-level tier) receives no bonus. Gold adds 10%; Platinum adds 15%; Diamond adds 20%. The tier bonus applies to base hotel points only — credit card points and flat promotional bonuses are not multiplied. Diamond status also brings a number of on-property perks such as suite upgrades and early check-in where available.

Wyndham Rewards Insider

Wyndham Rewards Insider is a paid subscription ($95/year) that adds a 50% bonus on your tier bonus points — not on your base points. In practice this means a Gold Insider earns an extra 0.5 points/$1, a Platinum Insider earns an extra 0.75 points/$1, and a Diamond Insider earns an extra 1 point/$1. Insider also automatically grants Gold status if you do not already have it, so a Blue member who subscribes will benefit from Gold’s 10% status bonus as well. Tick this box if you are an active Insider subscriber; it will apply the correct additional earning to your status tier.

Offers

Active Wyndham Rewards promotions are listed here, grouped by Global, Regional, and Brand-Specific offers. Check any promotion you have registered for and that applies to your stay. Offers can award a flat bonus for the stay, bonus points per night, or multiply your base points. Where a minimum stay length is required it is noted alongside the offer. Registration deadlines are shown where applicable — points are not awarded for offers you have not registered for before the deadline. The Insiders and Debit Cardmember sub-options under a promotion will only be valid if the parent offer box is also checked.

Custom Offer

Use this field for promotions not listed above — for example, a targeted email offer or a limited-time bonus from a partner. Enable the toggle, then select the offer type: Bonus points per stay adds a fixed amount to your total; Bonus points per night multiplies the entered amount by the number of nights in your stay; Base points multiplier applies a factor to your base earning (e.g. entering 3 gives you 3× base points). Enter the corresponding value and it will be factored in to your estimate.

Nights

This field appears when a selected offer or custom offer requires a per-night calculation. Enter the total number of nights in your stay so that per-night bonuses and minimum-stay thresholds can be evaluated correctly.

Credit Card

Wyndham co-branded Barclays cards and select Chase cards earn additional points on hotel spend. The Wyndham Rewards Earner card earns 5 points/$1 at Wyndham properties; the Earner Plus earns 6 points/$1; and the Earner Business earns 8 points/$1. The Chase Sapphire Reserve earns 4 points/$1 on travel (which includes hotels) and the Chase Sapphire Preferred earns 3 points/$1 on travel — those are Chase Ultimate Rewards points, not Wyndham points, but are included here for comparison purposes. Credit card points are earned on the full charge to the card including taxes and fees, and stack on top of hotel points. Select No Credit Card if you are paying with a non-Wyndham card or cash.

Extra Points

Use this field for any additional points not covered by the other inputs — for example, a bonus from a targeted offer, a partner transaction credit, or a stay incentive from a group booking. Enter the flat point amount and it will be added directly to your total.

Point Value

The assumed value of one Wyndham Rewards point in US cents, used to convert your earned points into an estimated cash equivalent. The default of 0.7¢ per point reflects a typical redemption value for a standard award night. You can adjust this up or down depending on your target redemption — higher-tier properties can yield better value per point, while lower-tier awards or transfer options may come in below the default.

Buy Points

Use this when you would buy points to cover the award — either because your balance is short, or because a points sale is cheaper than paying the cash rate. Enter the price you would pay per point, in cents. If a sale is running, use the sale price. Purchase prices are always in US cents, like the point value below, because points are sold in dollars regardless of the currency your hotel quotes.

The second field is how many points you already hold. It starts filled with the full award, meaning you have enough and are buying nothing — so the comparison you get by default is the ordinary one, points against cash, with no purchase in it. Edit it down to the balance you actually have and the calculator buys only the shortfall. Enter 0 to cost buying the whole award, which is what you want when weighing up a sale purely to book one stay. Clear the field and it goes back to tracking the award total.

Points that come out of your existing balance are costed at their redemption value (the Point Value field below), because spending them means giving up that value. Points you have to buy are costed at what you actually pay in cash.

Buy points →

Purchase rules: Points are sold in blocks of 1,000 — the calculator rounds your purchase up to the next whole block and credits any leftover points back at their redemption value. No tax or processing charge is added on top of the purchase price. Purchases are capped at 100,000 points per calendar year. If a stay needs more than that, the calculator flags it and costs the excess against your existing balance.

The award card then shows a break-even price: the price per point at which buying the points and booking the award costs exactly the same as paying cash. Below that price, buying wins; above it, pay cash. When the award can never beat cash whatever the points cost, the card says so instead.

Two things the calculator cannot check for you: purchased points generally do not count toward elite status or tier qualification, and in some programs they cannot be transferred to partners. Read the terms of the sale before buying.

Comparison Results

After clicking Compare, three cards show the effective cost of each option. Cash shows your out-of-pocket cost minus the value of points you would earn. Points converts the points spent to a dollar value using your chosen point valuation, plus any fees. Points + Cash combines the cash paid with the dollar value of points used. The option with the lowest net cost is marked “Best value.” A higher point value favors cash stays (your points are worth more kept), while a lower point value favors using points.
